How do I get him back?

Hello!

Two months ago my boyfriend of 1 1/2 years broke up with me saying I betrayed his trust and that what I did last was the icing on the cake. After about 5 days in which I kept trying to prove my innocence to him about the last thing he "thought" I did, during which time he kept saying he still cares about me in a lot of ways but things will never be the same between us, we stopped talking for about 2 weeks.

Then I contacted him and at one point during the conversation he told me he hated me for destroying what we had and that we cannot even be friends.

After another 2 weeks of not talking, I contacted him again (I know I made all the mistakes in the book about getting your ex back). He was very happy to learn that I got a new job. He even said he was proud of me, etc. and we talked like old friends.

After a few days he contacted me and he was laughing and happy. Then he said he had some sausages on the grill and I made a nasty comment about him burning them, to which he replied with a very derogatory comment about me

I want him back, but I don't know how to regain his respect. Sigh!
